When Twilight comes to an end:

the only sad part about twilight ending is that it’s also the end of Robs continuous and hilarious hatred for it

i wrote a paper as a senior in high school about this and when tracking the unhealthy relationship symptoms i found this out too. fucking a.

THIS is a legitimate reason to think Twilight is problematic. Not “oooh, but it’s girly literature cause the vampires sparkle and all the teen girls are into Edward”. As funny as some of the sparkly vampires jokes are - and they really sometimes are - Twilight’s very unique take on vampires is the least of the series’ problems, yet this criticism gets heard a lot more than the criticism of people who have noticed that something isn’t quite right in the relationship between Edward and Bella.

I brought this up every chance I had when I was working with the youth theatre girls this summer. There was one in particular who was way gaga over Edward and how she wanted a boyfriend just like him, so I told her “Oh, you’d be ok with a guy who followed you everywhere, invaded your privacy, ignored your feelings, sabotaged your friendships, and isolated you from everyone you’ve ever loved? And nearly killed you on several occasions?”
And I literally watched the switch flip in her head.

As much as we’d like to make jokes about how vampires don’t sparkle, this is really the core of why I dislike Twilight. Yeah, some of the canon collides with the mythos, but the fact he’s dismissive of her feelings, has moments where he legitimately wants to hurt her, and has trust issues to the point he breaks her car because he doesn’t want him seeing another guy really gets to me.
Edward stalks Bella throughout the books and is constantly following her, watching her sleep, and showing up at her bedside. He doesn’t listen when she talks about wanting to postpone a wedding and sometimes says stuff like, “Oh, Bella,” in a patronizing way when she’s talking to Carlile (sp?).
Twilight isn’t just a badly written love story; it’s a badly written love story that teaches young girls that a relationship that is abusive is one teenage girls should strive for.

In all three books Katniss just pees once.

Still better than seven years and Harry only taking one bath.

But Bella took a dump in all 3 books

Harry Potter was a long term boyfriend that you broke up with in July/August last year.
Hunger games was the rebound, so you try and convince yourself that the rebound was just as good as the long term boyfriend, but it really isn’t.
Twilight was the drunken one night stand that you prefer not to think about.

Just 5. And maybe THEN I will consider the statement.

    1. You have a “girl” who has two boys who are desperately in love wih her for no real reason that’s stated anyway only because.. One is her best friend, the other is her “Boyfriend” and she has feelings for both. Her Impending marriage upsets the best friend.

    2. The two boy’s that are in love with the girl join together to help take down the ones who wish to destroy them.

    3. The “best friend” is poor. The “Boyfriend” is in a higher class.

    4. There is a significant period of time where the “Boyfriend” is away giving the “Girl” and the “Best Friend” time to get closer.

    5. The “boyfriend” is obsessed with protecting the “girl”

    6. (because I actually rolled my eyes.) The not asleep “girl” over hearing the “Boyfriend” and the “best friend” talking about the love triangle.

Now, it must be said that while on the suffice they may look similar, The hunger games, unlike Twilight, is about MUCH more the hormones, and is FAR deeper then Twilight can ever fathom being.

“Twilight” is misogynistic, sexiest, and even a bit racist. That glorifies suicide, abusive relationships, pedophilia, teen pregnancy. It sends the message that a woman is nothing with out a man by her side and that is ALL “Twilight” is about. It’s disgusting.

“The Hunger Games” is about oppression gluttony, ignorance and power. And sheds light on the nature of man. What we as humans are capable of doing and how we find the suffering of others entertaining. There is no difference between the arena in the hunger games and the Colosseum in Rome. It also shows that the evils of the world come with their counter parts and there are those willing to fight for what is right and for a better day. That we all have a part to play.

If you’re looking for a fantasy series that’s easy to read, let me suggest Harry Potter. Not only is the writing better, the characters are deep and emotional and the crux of the series is about facing adversity and defeating evil, not facing high school without a boyfriend and defeating all the progress of women in the last 50 years.

    Amy Lecza

Such a good editorial on Twilight. Go read it fools.

this is why i hate the harry potter fandom

they think they’re so fucking better than everyone because it isn’t a love story

    just like stop

except twilight isn’t a love story

it’s a story about unhealthy infatuation and justifying stupid decisions in the name of that “love” (translation: infatuation)

also Deathly Hallows chapter 33 = a better love story than all four books of Twatlight.

    /argument

Just gonna step in here and point out one thing:

If you’re going to use the “Harry Potter is a greater love story” argument, please do not go with Snape and Lily as your example. Snape’s infatuation with Lily, while not nearly as disturbing as Twilight, was just as unhealthy.

Last thought: I don’t know what books you’re reading, but the entire Harry Potter series is about the power of love. It’s about how love is more powerful than evil. How it can protect you. How you can use it as a strength.

Twilight is not about love. It is about a wet dream some Mormon housewife had about a vampire.

    That^^^^^^^

    also

OK. Here I go. CRYSTAL LOOK AWAY!

I’ve re-bloged this photo set many times. Not because it’s funny but because it rings true.

You have Edward who tells Bella that if she dies he’ll kill himself. Then he goes off and tries to do so when he thinks she’s dead. Anything that glorifies suicide is sick! It’s not romantic and death is NOT proof of love. All it proves is that your ass needed help and everyone around you was fucking blind.

Yes, she does need to sort out her priories. Anyone who would choose death over life because they were denied something they wanted does.
